Sport Development and Para sport

Development Programs

The World Flying Disc Federations runs Development Programs with the aim of growing Flying Disc Sports around the world.

Launched in 2014, the Development Programs have since impacted thousands of athletes in communities and countries around the world.

The WFDF Development Support Program aims at supporting a broad range of projects through grants, including:

  • introduction of Flying Disc Sports into new countries
  • expansion of Flying Disc Sports activities in developing countries
  • improvement of gender equity, diversity, equity and inclusion in Flying Disc Sports activities
  • education for Spirit of the Game, coaches, game advisors and/or anti-doping
  • increase of youth participation in  Flying Disc Sports
  • introduction of sustainability and athlete safeguarding initiatives

The WFDF Disc Support Program aims to support the donation of discs to cities/communities/countries/programs in need to grow Flying Disc Sports.

The Programs are not restricted to projects by WFDF National and Associate Members but also calls for projects by individuals or groups, particularly in new countries.

Para Sport

The World Flying Disc Federation is a Recognized International Sport Federation by the International Paralympic Committee, the governing body for athletes with impairments and the Paralympic Movement.

Wheelchair Ultimate is the first discipline developed with an introductory book (Flying Disc Parasport Wheelchair Ultimate, 2021), a precursor to the Wheelchair Ultimate Rules (2023), which culminated in the first-ever World Championships. School Program

Flying Disc Sports are a fantastic opportunity for teachers in schools to promote the “frisbee lifestyle”, the “Spirit of the Game” and healthy, physical activity.

Launched in 2020, the “Ultimate at School Program: Teacher’s File” is a key resource for physical education teachers from primary and secondary schools to learn about the sport of Ultimate, its rules, specific aspects of the sport like throwing and catching, and teaching methods and learning assessment, along with other Flying Disc Disciplines and “Spirit of the Game”.
