WFDF announces that the WFDF 2020 World Junior Ultimate Championships will be held in Malmö, Sweden

WFDF is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2020 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) will be hosted by the city of Malmö, Sweden, from Saturday 18th July to Saturday 25th July, 2020. The event will feature national Ultimate teams in the Men’s Under-20 and Women’s Under-20 divisions.

The successful bid came from the local club team Kockums Ultimate in cooperation with regional teams and key persons in Sweden and Denmark, supported by the Swedish Ultimate Federation (SUF) and in a close cooperation with the City of Malmö. The organization is headed by Mattias Ahlgren and Dan Engström, who both have significant experience in hosting national and international Ultimate events.

“WFDF is proud to partner with such an exciting tournament host city for WJUC 2020. Malmö and the WJUC2020 Tournament Organising Committee will host a world-class event for the players, spectators and volunteers,”said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “WJUC will use the exceptional fields and stadiums that exist throughout the city, and we look forward to bringing Ultimate to the people of Malmö and introducing players to the beating heart of the city.”

In addition, the tournament entails a strong outreach and legacy program in collaboration with the ultimate community in Malmö and Copenhagen. “This event is very much in line with the strategies of the City of Malmö,especially its focus on social sustainability,” stated Attila Juhasz, head of events at the City of Malmö. TOC Tournament Director Mattias Ahlgren added that “thanks to the dedicated support from the City of Malmö and WFDF, and with an organising group second to none, this event truly is inviting the WORLD to playin Malmö WJUC 2020.”

WFDF expects around 50 teams to compete in the event. This year WJUC will take place in Waterloo, Canada from August 18-25 with 31 teams from 18 countries with just under 800 players. WJUC 2016 took place in Wroclaw Poland with 49 teams.

The WJUC 2020 is open to all junior players who do not turn twenty (20) during the calendar year 2020.
