WFDF 2014 Elections Results Announced

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) today has announced the results of its 2014 elections. The WFDF Member Associations voted on open positions on the Board of Directors and on the Ultimate Committee to serve from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2016.
WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch commented: “We are particularly pleased about the interest and high participation of our member associations in this year`s election. The WFDF Board composition was confirmed as an extremely qualified and experienced slate of candidates for the upcoming period of two years.”

Spirit of the Game Directors for 2015 BULA & WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate appointed

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) today announced the appointment of the Spirit of the Game Directors for the 2015 BULA & WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate (www.wcbu2015.org): Richard Moore from Australia will be the Spirit Director and Kate Barabanova from Russia will be the Assistant Spirit Director.
The highly anticipated event will be held 8-13 March 2015 in Dubai and will host over 1,000 athletes from 25 countries who will compete in the fully self-refereed team sport of Beach Ultimate. As for all flying disc sports, Spirit of the Game (SOTG) is the most important rule. It involves elements such as fair play, rules knowledge and the respect that players hold for one-another.

WFDF recognizes new flying disc distance record of 263.20 meters with throw by Simon Lizottte (GER)

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has officially recognized a new world record for the longest outdoor throw of a flying disc. On Saturday October 25, 2014, Germany’s Simon Lizotte threw the disc an incredible 263.2 meters (863.5 feet) while competing at the Fall Desert Wind Open Distance event in Primm, Nevada, USA. Lizotte’s throw flew the length of two and a half regulation football (soccer) pitches. Lizotte was using a 157g Innova Blizzard Boss disc and threw with a 17mph wind at his back, with the throw confirmed by a spotter using an approved distance finder.

World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) receives recognition by the International Paralympic Committee

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has conveyed on WFDF the status of an “IPC recognised International Federation (IF).” IPC Chief Executive Officer Xavier Gonzalez signed the letter confirming the approval of WFDF’s application sent last month outlining Wheelchair Ultimate activities in several countries including the USA, Canada, Germany and Japan.

WFDF announces hosts of 2015 events: WU23 to be held in London, PAUC in Quintana Roo, Mexico

WFDF is pleased to announce the hosts and event dates of two 2015 key events. The WFDF 2015 World Under 23 Ultimate Championships (WU23) will be held in the city of London, United Kingdom, while the WFDF 2015 PanAmerican Ultimate Championships (PAUC) will be staged in Mexico.
The WU23 will be held from 12 to 18 July 2015 and be hosted by UK Ultimate acting as the Tournament Organizing Committee (TOC). Responsible for the organization will be UKU CEO Simon Hill, who formerly served as WFDF’s Ultimate Committee chair. The event will be staged at the University College London (UCL) Sports Ground, in St Albans just north of London. The last WU23 was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which hosted 36 teams from 17 nations in 3 divisions: Open, Women’s, and Mixed. Over 900 athletes, coaches, and managers had visited Toronto for the Championships. These three divisions will be competing in London in 2015 again.

WFDF Seeks Bids to Host WFDF 2016 World Junior Ultimate Championships

WFDF’s Board of Directors and Ultimate Committee are seeking bids from potential host organizers for the WFDF 2016 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).
The WJUC is the premier world junior championship event for the flying disc discipline of Ultimate. The event is held bi-annually and is comprised of national teams competing in the Junior U19 Open and the Junior U19 Women’s divisions. The event was most recently held in 2014 Lecco, Italy.

World Flying Disc Federation - 2014 Election Announcement

WFDF is seeking enthusiastic, skilled and committed candidates for its 2014 Elections. Complete nominations must be received by the Nominating Committee by November 7, 2014. The target date for the start of the elections is November 15, 2014, with a targeted end date of December 15, 2014. Results should be announced by December 31, 2014 subject to confirmation of acceptance by elected candidates.

WFDF Congress approves United Arabian Ultimate and Congolese Flying Disc Federation as regular members

WFDF is pleased to announce that the Congress has approved United Arabian Ultimate (UAU) and the Féderation Congolaise de Disque Volant (FCDV) as regular national members of the World Flying Disc Federation. The acceptance of these two groups brings the WFDF membership to 62 member associations in 58 countries, adding key countries in the Middle East and Africa to the WFDF membership portfolio.

WFDF announces Request for Proposals for Official Merchandising company 2015-2016

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has opened a tender for establishing a multi‐year WFDF Sponsor & Official Apparel / Merchandise supplier partnership for the two year period from 1 January 2015 through the end of 2016.
Expressions of interest are requested no later than Friday, 17 October, 2014. Detailed and final proposal shall be submitted by Friday, 31 October 2014.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2016 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) will be hosted in the city of Wrocław (Poland). The event will be held from July 31-August 6, 2016 at the facilities at the Pola Marsome fields in Wrocław. The finals will be staged in the Stadion Olimpijski (Stadium), a venue of the 2017 IWGA World Games, on August 6, 2016. The successful bid, which topped five other qualified bids, came from the Ultimate bro s.c. (UB) group headed by Michal Dul and is supported and endorsed by the Polish Ultimate Players Association.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that the inaugural WFDF 2015 Asia Oceanic Guts Club Championships (AOGCC) will be hosted in the city of New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei. The event will be held on October 17-18, 2015 at the facilities at the “Ban Chiao Multiple Stadium” located in New Taipei City, with the finals being held on the main field at this venue on Sunday, October 18, 2015. The successful bid came from the Chinese Taipei Flying Disc Association (CTFDA) acting as Tournament Organizing Committee under the leadership of Michael HU. It is expected that a minimum number of 10 teams will participate in the Open and Women’s divisions.

The World Flying Disc Federation announces that the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has approved the short-list of eight International Federations for potential inclusion as an additional event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games without including a Flying Disc sport.
The announcement was made today by the Additional Event Program Panel of Tokyo 2020`s Organising Committee, concluding the second stage of the application procedure before entering the official phase II of the process. The IFs of the eight sports included to the short-list: Baseball/Softball (WBSC), Bowling (WB), Karate (WKF), Roller Sports (FIRS), Sport Climbing (IFSC), Squash (WSF), Surfing (ISA), Wushu (IWUF).

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the Congress has approved of a modification of the WFDF Bylaws establishing a full voting right for the Athlete`s Commission chair on its Board of Directors.
The WFDF Congress unanimously approved of the proposed change allocating full voting powers to the Athlete’s Commission chair within the Board.

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the totally revamped website of the Freestyle Players Association (FPA) is now live at www.FreestyleDisc.org.
“We have completely revamped the website to modernize the feel and offer more of the features that we think everyone will use and love,” commented FPA at-large Board member Brian Boaté on the launch. “Our hope is that this site will be the online hub for our favorite sport and to provide current news, exciting content and valuable tools for both our existing community and to attract new players as well. The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with Discraft Inc. as a WFDF Sponsor and Official Disc Supplier for the period 2015-2016. Discraft Inc., based in Michigan, USA, will also have the exclusive rights to produce “Official WFDF Ultimate Discs” during the term of this Agreement.
The Discraft UltraStarTM also will be used as official game discs during WFDF sanctioned events in 2015 and 2016.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that it was accepted by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games as one of 26 International Federation (IF) to be considered in round two as a potential additional sport on the Olympic Programme to be chosen by the hosts at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Recommendation 10 of Olympic Agenda 2020 approved by the IOC in December 2014 allows Organising Committees for the Olympic Games (OCOGs) to make a proposal for the inclusion of one or more additional events on the Olympic Programme for that edition of the Olympic Games. This principle applies for the first time for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games and consequently the Tokyo Organisers had invited all IOC 33 recognised International Federations (IFs) with summer events to submit their application in the first round.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2015 Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships (AOUC) 2015 will be hosted in Hong Kong. The event will be held from November 27-29, 2015 at the facilities at the “Happy Valley Recreation Ground” and “So Kon Po Sports Ground” on 8 Ultimate fields. The finals will be staged in the stadia of the “Tai Hang Tung Recreation Ground” (4 fields) and “Mong Kok Stadium” (2 fields), on Sunday, November 29, 2015. The Mong Kok Stadium is the major venue used by the Hong Kong Football Association for First Division League football matches, Cup competitions, International football matches such as Asian Football Confederation Cup and training session for Hong Kong Football Representative Teams.

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) recently announced that the inaugural Team Disc Golf World Championship (TDGWC) will be held in mid-2016, and started the process of seeking bids from potential local hosts to organize the event. A detailed bid package is available here.
The selection committee for the 2016 Team Disc Golf World Championships would like to review as many bids as possible from interested nations. In order to encourage a greater response, we have extended the deadline for submission to June 30th, with an expected date of announcing the selection by July 31st.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce the release of a six-part video series on Spirit of the Game (SotG). The first-ever WFDF Spirit Conference presented by UltimatEvents and sponsored by WFDF was held in conjunction with the World Ultimate Club Championships in August 2014. During this event, community organizers and leaders from all levels, divisions, and global regions met to discuss a variety of issues related to SotG.
