WFDF Ultimate Rules Sub-Committee releases the new WFDF Rules of Ultimate website
04 January 2013
The WFDF Ultimate Rules Sub-Committee is pleased to release the new WFDF Rules of Ultimate website, which is at rules.wfdf.org. The new site includes an interactive html version of the Rules of Ultimate, a discussion forum and a new Rules Accreditation process.
The Rules Accreditation process is designed to allow players to demonstrate that they have read and understood the Rules of Ultimate. There are two types of Accreditation: (1) WFDF Accreditation - Standard: For all types of players (including those who have not played a game); and (2) WFDF Accreditation - Advanced: For experienced players only. Players who successfully complete the quiz will be issued with a certificate. A register of people who are Rules Accredited is updated each month and is available from the Rules Website. Tournament Directors and League Directors are encouraged to require players on each team to be Rules Accredited. This could include requiring all players to have the Standard Accreditation and for 1 or 2 players on each team to have the Advanced Accreditation.

WFDF to Have First-Ever In-Person Board Meeting November 3-4
20 October 2012
The WFDF Board is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its first ever in-person Board meeting on the weekend of November 3-4 at the Hilton Garden Inn at JFK Airport in New York. The primary focus of the meeting will be to discuss the elements of the organization’s strategic plan. All WFDF Members and players are invited to submit issues or suggest topics that might be considered by the board in their discussions.
Certain portions of the meeting will be moderated by Dr. David Barkan, a consultant specializing in facilitating strategic and collaborative group development and planning. David is also a long-time Ultimate player and thus has a particular appreciation for the issues facing disc sports.
Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President, stated: “While the board has met ten times a year by conference call over the last couple years, it is difficult to tackle the big picture issues without being in front of each other as a board. We have always tried to run the organization on a lean budget, but we feel that this will be an effective investment in WFDF’s future and we hope to make it a biannual event going forward.”
The national and organizational associations that comprise WFDF’s Membership meet annually at the Congress (most recently in July in Sakai Japan) but this will be the first full board meeting held in person.
Israeli National Girls’ Team at WFDF 2012 WJUC Achieves Milestone in World Sports Participation
23 August 2012
The young women’s team representing Israel at the recent WFDF World Juniors Ultimate Championship in Dublin, Ireland achieved a landmark for the sport of Ultimate and their country by fielding a team composed of both Arab and Jewish athletes. Prior teams at the World Junior Ultimate Championships had been comprised entirely of Jewish athletes. While other Israeli sports teams have occasionally had one or two Arab players on them, few Israeli teams have had this measure of balance. The Women’s Juniors (under-20) team was composed of 10 Jewish and 6 Arab players.
According to the Israeli team’s head coach, Miranda Roth Knowles, former Team USA World Champion player and Gold Medalist at the 2005 IWGA World Games, and current Director of Coaching for Ultimate Peace, “the team practices regularly, boasts numerous cross-cultural friendships, and prides itself on team unity, cohesion, and as being a sign of hope for co-existence. Interaction between these Arab and Jewish Israeli youth would be highly unlikely without involvement in this sport, since day to day Israeli life is mostly segregated.”

09 December 2013 - Official Communication
The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that a Working Group on Indoor Ultimate events and rules will be established by the Board of Directors and it requests nominations from its member associations for participation in the group.
“After having been approached by several member associations to assist in coordinating Indoor Ultimate activity, WFDF is establishing a working group to help organize this discipline,”commented WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “We are aware that Indoor Ultimate is growing, and our objective is to define a unified set of competition rules and event guidelines for Indoor Ultimate so that it can continue to grow with consistency across the globe.”
Indoor Ultimate is often played in cold weather countries during winter months and it features a smaller playing area, fewer players on each team, shorter stall count and a number of other variations from traditional Ultimate rules because of the limitations of indoor spaces. The Working Group will be composed of representatives from WFDF member countries where there are already Indoor events taking place. WFDF is also making available a Disc Missionary Program, where flying disc athletes travelling to areas where disc sports are not actively practiced may receive a package of 10 discs to distribute. One of the decisions at this year’s Congress in Toronto was to look into developing Wheelchair Ultimate. This program could be introduced by building on activity that already exists and by approaching local adaptive sports organizations and seeking to incorporate Ultimate into their current activities. We have heard of small leagues in New Hampshire and Montreal, and we would like to see if it is feasible to support a broader initiative. We are now looking for information on any current activity that may exist. We would also like to hear from anyone interested in the project willing to work with their local adaptive sports organizations.
