Colchester, England to host the WFDF 2017 World Team Disc Golf Championships

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2017 World Team Disc Golf Championships (WTDGC 2017) will be played in the city of Colchester on the Classic Course at the University of Essex from Wednesday 23rd – Saturday 26th August, 2017. Located in southern England, Colchester hosted the 2012 European Disc Golf Championships and has been re-designed and re-equipped with new baskets for this event. Technical Director Charlie Mead has coordinated with the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) and they have determined that the WTDGC 2017 will be a Major event. This will help bring interest from the top players in the world for points and rankings and also increase visibility among the community.

WFDF Announces Great Grandmasters Division due to the Unprecedented Demand of the 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is excited to announce that it is sanctioning the 2017 World Great Grand Masters Beach Ultimate Championships (WGGMBUC) which will be hosted in Lisbon, Portugal from 17-21 June 2017. This announcement comes after WFDF received 200 bids for the 2017 WCBU and received interest from eight nations to host a championship for the Great Grand Masters division, the first for the age division. Any player who is 48 years as of December 31, 2017 will be eligible to play and the tournament will be an open division format.

UK Sports Council recognizes UK Ultimate

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that its national member association in the United Kingdom, UK Ultimate, has been awarded formal recognition as the UK National Governing Body (NGB) for Ultimate by the home country sports councils: Sport England, sportNI, sportScotland and Sport Wales. Ultimate was officially recognized in the UK as a sporting activity in 2008.

Second MENA Ultimate Club Championships to be held in Jordan, 18-19 November 2016

Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Ultimate Frisbee club teams to play in ground-breaking regional tournament
Interest in disc sports is growing around the world, and there’s no better place to see that happening than in the Middle East and North Africa with Ultimate Frisbee.
Twelve teams featuring players from across the region are about to take part in the Second MENA Ultimate Club Championships from 18-19 November in Amman, Jordan. The tournament will include - for the first time - most of the established club teams in the region, from as far as Egypt to the West, across the Gulf to United Arab Emirates in the East, and Lebanon to the North.

WFDF excited for Beach Ultimate to be included in the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) Board of Directors has reacted enthusiastically to the announcement that the initial edition of the ANOC World Beach Games (WBG) in 2019 will include the Flying Disc sport of Beach Ultimate. The San Diego Organizing Committee for the WBG have released the list of 19 sports being included in their sports programme for the initial edition of these games, all of which are different disciplines to any contested in the Olympic programme. The announcement followed meetings between San Diego and ANOC officials at last month’s Asian Beach Games in Danang. San Diego has proposed that the event be held from 10-20 October 2019.

WFDF announces host of the WFDF 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio - USA

WFDF’s Board of Directors and Ultimate Committee are pleased to announce that the WFDF 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC) will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA from Saturday 14th to Saturday 21st July 2018. The event will be held at the Lebanon Sports Complex, which has 28 full sized Ultimate fields, with the finals to be held at a local high school stadium. WUCC is the premier club championships event for the flying disc discipline of Ultimate. The event is held every four years and is comprised of city club teams who are endorsed by their National Federations. The 2018 WUCC will be comprised of Men’s, Women’s and Mixed divisions, with Masters Division competitions held separately for the first time.

World Flying Disc Federation Establishes Advisory Council

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced today that it had established an Advisory Council to assist its board and officers with the development of strategic policy initiatives. The six person Advisory Council is comprised of Vincent Gaillard, who will serve as chair, Peter Bayer, Val Belmonte, Mary-Clare Brennan, Jay Stuart, and Christian Wassmer.

WFDF - 2016 Election Announcement

WFDF is seeking enthusiastic, skilled and committed candidates for its 2016 Elections. Complete nominations must be received by the Nominating Committee by Friday, November 4, 2016. The target date for the start of the elections is November 15, 2016, with a targeted end date of December 15, 2016. Results should be announced by December 31, 2016 subject to confirmation of acceptance by elected candidates.

WFDF receives overwhelming number of bids for the 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate

Will be forced to restrict registrations and team sizes despite 50% increase in expected capacity
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announces that it had received requests for bids to send teams to the 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) from an unprecedented and unexpected number of countries. After working with the local event organizers, the event capacity was able to be increased to 120 teams, but WFDF will still have to restrict registrations and team sizes for the event because of absolute capacity constraints. The WCBU will be held on the beaches of Royan, France, over the week of 18-24 June 2017.

WFDF appoints José Pires as interim chair of the Beach Ultimate Committee

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced today that its board had appointed José Pires of France as interim chair of the Beach Ultimate Committee. He will also join the board and serve through December 2016. Pires replaces Patrick van der Valk, who had resigned for personal reasons. Pires, who had been the Deputy chair of the committee, does not intend to run for election in December and so the search for candidates for the next two-year term beginning 1 January 2017 has begun immediately.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to present its call for development grants applications for 2017. In 2017 a total of US$ 24,000 has been budgeted for development projects including the WFDF coaching clinics and other projects. The individual disc community grants program constitutes approximately 25% of the development budget, with individual grants limited to no more than US,500 each. WFDF also plans to expand this year its disc missionary program, providing discs to travelers to areas with limited disc activity. The deadline for the submission of grant applications 23 April 2017 with the first disbursements expected in June 2017.

Today the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) released its updated list for 2016 of average Spirit of the Game scores by country. Intended to accompany the recently updated WFDF World Ultimate Rankings, this list takes into account scores received by all teams attending recent WFDF World Championships and Continental Championships for Ultimate over the past three years, including the Spirit scores from the 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships in London and World Junior Ultimate Championships in Wroclaw. The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has reached a cooperation Agreement with the Olympic Channel to collaborate on content. Together with the World Air Sports Federation and World Bowling, WFDF joins the 36 other International Federations (IFs) and IOC Recognised Sports Federations who have previously announced similar agreements with the Olympic Channel this year.

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) today has announced the results of its 2016 elections. The WFDF Member Associations voted on open positions on the Board of Directors and on the Ultimate Committee to serve from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2018.
“We are pleased to see the high caliber of our elected board be maintained in this latest election,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “I am honored to receive the support of our Members and to receive their trust to serve another two year term as WFDF’s President. I am also excited that we managed to increase the number of women on the Board to four out of fourteen, reflecting more closely the gender mix of our elite athletes globally. VC Ultimate, based in Toronto, Canada, will have the exclusive rights to develop and sell any and all official event merchandise and apparel for the WFDF’s world and continental championships over this period. In return, this partnership will provide benefits to the players and teams, event organizers and to WFDF. The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that its Congress has accepted Bolivia, Cambodia, Rwanda, and Uruguay as new WFDF member associations. With the acceptance of these four new national member associations, WFDF now has 71 member associations in 69 countries.
“After a thorough and multi-year development and evaluation process conducted by WFDF in close co-operation with the new member associations, the applications sent in by the BFDA, CFDA, RUFA and UFU were accepted by the WFDF Congress upon recommendation of the Board of Directors unanimously,” commented WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “I am extremely delighted about this announcement of the approval of these four new members, particularly given that we continue to grow on our emerging continents, with two new members in South America, one from Africa and another from Asia. This shows the great success of our development work including the coaching skills clinics and development grants which we allocate every year.
