Announces cooperation with University sports (FISU) and School Sports (ISF) international governing bodies
The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that it has finalized a cooperation arrangement with the International University Sport Federation (FISU) and the International School Sport Federation (ISF), completing its multi-sports event portfolio in the youth categories.
Having formally signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FISU at the end of January 2018, FISU President Oleg Matytsin and WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch met on the occasion of the 2018 SportAccord convention in Bangkok, Thailand to discuss further steps bringing the cooperation in the University sport area fully to life.
Under the present memorandum FISU and WFDF have decided to carry out initiatives to encourage the development of the practice of Flying Disc by university students of both genders, further encourage gender equity in the practice of University Sport and promote sustainability, the concepts of fair-play and integrity, and join the fight against all forms of racism in sport.
The International University Sport Federation (FISU) organizes international sports competitions for student-athletes through the FISU Summer Universiade, the FISU Winter Universiade, the FISU World University Championships and the FISU University World Cups, while WFDF oversees the organization of international Flying Disc competitions. Both parties have agreed that WFDF may organize International University Flying Disc events endorsed by FISU following the “Regulations for FISU Endorsed Events.”
FISU and WFDF undertake to promote each other’s activities and help establish the connection between respective national member federations – university sport and Flying Disc -- to foster cooperation with and collaboration between these members.
“In a further move to increase the appeal of practicing Flying Disc sports in all important youth areas and categories we are proud to announce the Memorandum of Understanding and cooperation with FISU, the international governing body of university sports,” commented WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch after meeting with FISU President Matytsin in Bangkok. “The formal recognition of Flying Disc sports as a FISU recognized sport which was granted by FISU in October 2017 was now formalized and all operational and administrative structures are fully established for WFDF to host FISU-endorsed events. The new WFDF University and School Sports Commission will be responsible to handle all matters related to University Sports as well as School Sports initiatives.”
The expansion of the tasks of WFDF’s Commission results from the cooperation with the International School Sport Federation (ISF), which was formally signed by WFDF Executive Director Volker Bernardi during the SportAccord IF Forum at the end of 2017 in Lausanne, Switzerland meeting with ISF President Laurent Petrynka and ISF Secretary General Jan Coolen.
ISF is the world governing body dedicated to education through sport. It organizes world schools championships in different sporting disciplines and encourages exchanges between school students with a view to promoting better mutual understanding.
The objectives of the signed MoU are to foster collaboration among both parties’ constituents to use Flying Disc sports as a social-educational tool, to create synergies around Flying Disc sports in the framework of “Flying Disc school sport” movement, to implement an interactive cooperation between both organizations, and to establish School Sport World Championships as per ISF regulations.
WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch met with the ISF delegation at the SportAccord convention 2018 in Bangkok to exchange information on the first ISF Flying Disc School Sport World Championships which will be held in Le Mans (France) during the summer of 2019, in cooperation with Fédération Flying Disc France (FFDF), the French national member association of WFDF, and the French School Sport Federation (UNSS).
“Establishing international school sport competitions on a world level perfectly completes our events portfolio in the youth categories. Together with FISU endorsed University sport events, these multi-sports championships complement our long-standing youth events such as the WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) and WFDF World Under-24 Ultimate Championships (WU24),” commented WFDF President Rauch. “We are now in a position to serve all youth client groups and offer opportunities to compete on highest international levels fully in compliance with the focus of the Olympic Agenda 2020 on youth and sport.”
