The World Games 2013
World Games - The Medal Matches – Tuesday, July 30th 2013
01 August 2013
At the World Games the medal games are re-matches. This time it featured Colombia and Canada for Bronze and USA versus Australia for gold.
The Bronze began after the three-hour siesta in the afternoon and a TV delay as the international and local broadcasting teams needed time to get everything lined up. Why? Because host team Colombia surprised many by qualifying for the medal round.
This game had a little bit of everything as the re-focused and unified Canadian team that we saw earlier in the day against Japan was once again present and Colombia was focused and ready.
World Games Final Pool Play Results – July 29th and 30th
30 July 2013
Lots of opportunities available to start the end of Pool Play as teams kept their spirits high. First game round 2 featured Great Britain versus Japan. After a strong first half and a late 9-7 lead, once again GB faltered as the Japanese defense tightened up. The big hucks failed and Japan wins 13-11.
Colombia-USA followed, a good test for Colombia. Could they hang with the rangy, confident and hard-to-read Americans? It’s tough to counter a team when you’re not sure what angle they are taking. The Americans rarely show frustration or anger, even when Colombia made a run late in the game. USA would win 13-7.
The World Games 2013 – Day 1 of the Ultimate competition
29 July 2013
Everything you need to know about this tournament could be seen at 8:45 this morning, 15 minutes into the first game, Japan versus Colombia: Outside the stadium a line stretching far down the block was still waiting to get in. On the field, Colombia was scoring goal after goal each one to a roar of the crowd. One got the sense that this was going to be a special day.
